Patten Energy Founder

The Founder and President of Patten Energy, Mark Patten, has over 30 years of experience in the home heating oil industry. Mark grew up in the Attleboro, MA area and started his first oil company in the mid 1980’s as a fresh-faced kid right out of college. He researched the market for well over a year. Then he sold everything he owned to purchase an old 1970 Ford oil truck that he hand painted and stenciled his name upon — and Patten Oil was born.  Within several years, the business grew from one truck and a handful of customers to a 5-truck fleet, 3 service vans and 12 employees who cheerfully serviced 22 towns in Massachusetts and Rhode Island. They delivered #2 heating oil, kerosene and diesel fuel to a base of over 5000 customers.  Eventually, Mark sold his successful business and relocated to Vermont. In October of 2005, Mark re-established Patten Oil in Rutland in an effort to provide its residents with a fresh new alternative in home heating care.

At Patten Energy we offer the following plans:

• Automatic Delivery- Why not let Patten Energy handle the responsibility of keeping your fuel tank full? You won’t need to and it’s what we do best! Our computerized degree-day system allows us to keep track of your usage and schedule deliveries so you never have to worry about running out of fuel. There is no additional charge for this service. We can process your payment electronically to make life easier for you!

• Budget Program- Enrollment for the Budget Program starts each spring and the program offers automatic delivery, spreading your payments over a 12-month period. Our Budget Program keeps your bills low and predictable, no matter how cold the weather! Payments are based on your prior year’s usage with the first payment generally due on June 1st. Deliveries will be made automatically in quantities up to the balance on your account.

• Will Call Delivery- When you need your next fuel delivery, give our office a call and we’ll confirm your delivery date, dispatching one of our trucks to your location. Please order at 1/4 of a tank with at least 24 hours notice. Payment is required at the time of delivery with a 100 gallon minimum and we accept cash, money orders, personal checks (subject to bank verification) and credit cards for your convenience.

• Emergency Delivery Service- We’re here for our customers 24 hours a day, 7 days a week! We answer our phones personally during the winter heating season insuring prompt efficient service. Emergency deliveries are subject to a 100 gallon minimum with a surcharge for after hour deliveries.

• Free Tank Inspections- We will inspect your oil tank for free and refer you to other companies to install and/or remove tanks.
