The Co-operative develops or purchases solar power projects in partnership with area schools, institutions, municipalities, and businesses.
OREC members are building community-owned solar power, profitably. Residents across Eastern Ontario have invested $8 million through OREC in 18 solar power projects.
Founded in 2010, the Ottawa Renewable Energy Co-op (OREC) is a social enterprise that facilitates community ownership over local renewable power production. Profits generated through the sale of electricity to the Ontario power grid are distributed back to investors.
