In 1983, Rod’s parents pledged their ranch as collateral to help him borrow the money to drill his first well. In 1988, Stan Jumper signed on as head geologist, and the company continued to grow and become what is now Lewis Energy Group.
Our founder, Rod Lewis was a wildcatter from the beginning. In 1982, Rod took out a loan and bought his first South Texas well for $13,000. The seller planned to plug the well, but Rod was determined to have it produce again, which it did. Lewis Petro Properties was born.
Lewis Energy owns and operates over 1,600 wells on more than 450,000 acres, and employs over 1,000 team members in our South Texas back yard. We’re proud to be known as a good neighbor. Which means we take care of our royalty owners, as well as the land we drill on.
FROM SOUTH TEXAS TO THE INTERNATIONAL SCENE
In 2001, Lewis Energy Group expanded its operations to Colombia, acquiring an interest in the Cara Cara block. In 2004, the company signed a Multiple Services Contract with PEMEX, becoming the first American company since 1938 to operate exploration and production wells in Mexico.
